It was a cool spring, followed by an average to warm summer. Fall rains came early, and the grapes were picked in the middle of the rain event. We made the decision to pick based on the integrity of the grape. Leaving the Pinot Noir out in the rain longer was not going to gain anything in maturity, while risking loss of quality due to the wet weather.
The grapes were 100% destemmed and fermented in stainless steel fermenters for 21 days. The fermentation was 100% indigenous, both for primary and secondary (malolactic) fermentation. The wine was aged on lees for 16 months in 100% French oak, 28% of which was new. The remainder was a blend of 1-year and neutral French oak.
